Green tea is a powerful antioxidant reducing the level of free radicals which cause cell damage. Since ancient times the Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea for a healthier life and it is only recently that more people today are discovering the benefits that the Chinese have known for at least 4,000 years. Research shows that green tea is known to help everything from headaches to depression. Drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful with weight loss, diabetes, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s, cholesterol, heart disease, infection, impaired immune function and much more. It has also been reported that drinking green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Research also indicates improvements in good (HDL) cholesterol. How to Brew a Cup of Green Tea It is important to be careful not to over brew. Use one tea bag, or 2 - 4 grams of tea,* per cup. Fill a kettle with cold water and bring to a boil. Remove the kettle, allow it to stand for up to 3 minutes. Pour the heated water over the tea bag or tea, and allow to steep for to 3 minutes. If using a tea bag, remove the bag. Allow the tea to cool for three more minutes. *One to two teaspoons, depending on the variety of green tea you are brewing. Recommended Reading
