“Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.” William James (1842 - 1910) This quote, by William James, reminds us that we are still in control of how we shape our destiny. No matter how we cut it or what the package looks like, the underlying truth is…we create the world in which we live. And yes, how often have we heard this before? How do we change our outlook? How do we “stay” the course? With affirmations, reading positive, uplifting articles, attending seminars with a message? Absolutely, however, it is not necessarily what we do as much as how we think and then take action. Have you ever asked yourself where your thinking comes from? Why we say particular things, or why we react to situations as we do? Are you an optimist or a pessimist or a combination of both? Recently, I found myself reading about our DNA, our genetics and how our ancestry plays such a major role in our lives today. Even on television these days, there are commercials telling us that our cholesterol is not just from the foods we eat but also comes from Aunt Suzie or Grandpa Jones. I began to understand the possibility of why we may be predisposed in how we live our lives. According to Margaret Ruby, author of The DNA of Healing, “The world we experience today is a result of the events going back to the very beginning of time.” If that is so, then this inner connectedness to our ancestors creates the domino effect from one generation to the next. We are their ancestors carrying forward the traditions, the dispositions of their beginnings, our beginnings. DNA has come to play such a vital role in society today and although genetic, the question is, can we change it? Can we actually alter our blueprint of life? Are our thoughts strong enough to overcome the building blocks of our disposition? Can we re-wire our DNA? Perhaps it’s just a matter of utilizing all of the strands of our DNA to become the ultimate of our true creation. There have been studies on the super psychic children of China and they have found that these children actually have additional strands of DNA. Is that the reason for their abilities? Who knows for sure. What I do believe is, whether it is genetics or not that runs our world, we can change every aspect of ourselves, our society and our ancestry to embrace all of creation. It is our right to do so and to remember that nothing is cast in stone. Our world is constantly changing, evolving and we play a vital role in all aspects of this metamorphosis. Whether it is through complacency, action, our DNA or genetic coding, it is still our soul and heart that will bring about our final destination. This, is where we begin and end…at the very core of our beingness, the soul and heart of humanity. Blessings and do take care, my friends. Michelene
